A Master’s Playground.
Success is almost never the result of mere talent. It’s how we practice that sets us apart. Blend your gift with a sustained quality of effort to foster true mastery.
A common misunderstanding of this teaching is that it’s the sheer volume of practice that creates mastery. Not true! No matter what goals are pursued, it’s the quality of effort behind them that determines trajectory.
In yoga, quality of practice is essential. Repeating the sun salutations over and over isn’t enough. We need to be working to observe and feel new things on a deeper level each round through in order to really grow and expand. That is real incremental progress, even if the strides can’t be seen or recognized on the outside.
When properly applied, this sophisticated form of practice is really about the training of attention. It involves learning to sustain attention on a complex task and to come back to that task over and over again with an open mind. This mental strength and sensitivity is a master’s playground—patterns and opportunities appear that others cannot see.
Get on your mat this week and practice with purpose. You’re destined to benefit.
Metta,
Drewsome.
